When I saw the number display at the top of my cellphone, I was about to call my bank to deposit a few thousand dollars into an account I had never heard of. At first, it seemed to be a normal number—another one with the prefix “877-311-5134.” But there was something that unnerved me. I then made the decision to do some research. At that point, I learned that this phone number is a scam intended to defraud you of your money.

The fraudsters aim to dupe the victim into thinking their phone call is coming from their bank or another financial institution by using this number. If you choose to pick up the phone, they might try to steal your money by transferring it to a phoney bank account or even by pitching you phoney goods. So be mindful of where your numbers originate and take precautions to avoid becoming a victim of this scam. Contact your bank or financial institution right away if you believe you are a victim. They can assist in getting your money back.

What is 877-311-5134?

There is a hoax called “877-311-5134” that is now accessible online. This con involves getting a call from someone posing as an employee of Microsoft, Apple, or another IT company. The individual calling you will let you know that there is an infection in your system that has to be treated. They’ll claim they’re sending an engineer to clean the infection out of your house.

You should put the phone down as soon as possible. Do not submit to pressure from them to give them access to your computer or any of your personal information. If you provide them access, they may use it to infect your computer with malware or steal your personal information.

Why did I call them, exactly?

I thought the caller, “Natalie,” was from a debt collection company when I got it from her. She asserted that I owed her $5,000 and made a help-want offer.

After she called, one of the first things I did was do a web search for her business. I found out that she was operating a bogus business, therefore there was no way I could give her $5,000.

All of my attempts to reach Natalie to ask her to call me back went to voicemail. It appears that scammers frequently use this technique to make voicemails sound official, but they don’t respond to your inquiries or give any information on how to pay the dues.

What did you say when I called you?

When I called, the person on the other end of the line promised to be able to help me resolve my problem and could get my bank account information as soon as possible. To do this, they required my identity number in addition to my entire name, address, and account number. I gave them all the information they needed and awaited a response.

None showed. After a few days, I called back and spoke with the same person, who informed me that my account had been successfully transferred to their account and that all I needed to do was sign a contract. I asked how much I could receive back, and was informed that it was $10,000. I once more provided all the information required and awaited a response.

After that, I got nothing. I called them again a few weeks later to let them know I hadn’t heard from them. This time, I was put on hold while someone looked for me. After waiting for about ten minutes on hold, someone finally picked up the phone and informed me that there had been a transfer issue, and instead of getting $10,000, I would only get about $850.

I have to say that this was not at all what I had hoped for, especially after spending hours speaking with someone who seemed to be quite persuasive. In actuality, 1 in 5 people have fallen victim to a scam at some point in their lives. The greatest way to protect oneself is to be informed.

Who could possibly go through anything like this?

A fraud victim might be anyone. It’s possible that you know the perpetrator or that they are an unknown person. Scams can take many different forms, including phone calls, emails, and written correspondence.

Scams that promise investments, free trips, and other rewards are the most common. Some con artists use intimidating language or actions to get you to part with money or support their cause. Some con artists promise quick and simple money by promising enormous payouts from investments or gambling.

Whatever the fraud, it’s important to understand that there is no 100% certain method of making money. Any deal that seems too good to be true usually is. Watch out for con artists since there are better ways to make money and live your life.

Conclusion

The previous year, I received a call from 877-311-5134. The caller identified themselves as my bank and informed me that there had been a problem with one of my accounts. He encouraged me to get in touch with them right away to fix the issue. I followed his instructions and called him several times throughout the day. Before I could finish my call each time, I would always get disconnected. I didn’t discover the number was probably bogus and that something had been taken from one of my accounts until a few hours later. If you receive a message like this, refrain from acting in their place. Simply cancel the conversation and let your bank or credit card company know.
